New Zealand Certificate in Pest Operation (Level 2 Upgrade) Urban Pest Control

The upgrade to the New Zealand Certificate in Pest Operation (Level 3) Urban Pest Control is delivered through the workplace by Pacific International Technical Division with support from Careerforce.

Training is seen as an essential element in supporting the urban and agricultural pest management industries. The training programs offered by Pacific International are developed by people with long term industry experience in pest management and designed to meet the needs of the industry.

This qualification is designed to provide administrative skills as well as the broad core skills and knowledge required in urban pest management roles.

Program outline

This qualification update is delivered as a workplace program. This means that the skills and tasks required to be developed by the trainee will be done in the workplace. During the training period you will need to be working in the field as a pest technician, using a range of pest management processes and the appropriate material and equipment. Workplace skills development is an integral part of the training program and will be assessed.

Trainees will cover:

  • The purpose and impacts of urban pest management
  • Legislative framework
  • Regulatory controls governing the urban pest management industry

 

Program Structure

Graduates of the National Certificate in Urban Pest Management (Level 2) only need to complete the following unit standards:

Assessment process

Completion of the training program requires the successful completion of a range of assessments. The assessments are broken down into 3 assessment types:

Workbook knowledge assessment: these are book based assessments designed to determine the level of understanding and knowledge developed during the training process.

 

Enrolment requirements and fees

Enrolment Requirements

To enrol the trainee must meet the following requirements:

  • be employed as a trainee or technician in the urban pest management field
  • have one of the following residency statuses: 
    • New Zealand citizen (including Cook Islands, Niue and Tokelau citizens)
    • New Zealand permanent resident
    • New Zealand work permit/work visa
    • Australian citizen
    • hold refugee status in New Zealand
    • reside in New Zealand

To support learning, a literacy evaluation will take place on enrolment and depending on the results, a further assessment may be required

Fees

Complete the standalone unit standards application form and pay the following fees:

  • $155 (GST inclusive) qualification fee payable to Careerforce
  • $690 (GST inclusive) to Pacific International for all coursework/materials.
